President Trump stated on Truth Social that the US Navy will begin blockading any and all ships trying to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz. He specifically warned that Iran’s remaining “fast attack ships” will be eliminated if they come near the blockade, comparing the response to operations against drug-smuggling vessels at sea.

According to CENTCOM statements, the blockade targets vessels entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas but will not impede freedom of navigation for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports. This appears to be a more limited operation than Trump’s initial rhetoric suggested.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responded by warning that any military vessels approaching the strait would be considered a violation of the ceasefire and would face a “severe response.”

The move comes after the collapse of peace talks in Islamabad. The blockade aims to pressure Iran economically by restricting its oil exports and shipping. Oil prices have already surged above $100 per barrel in response. The situation risks further escalation in the already volatile Gulf region.
