Marcus V. Thorne is the founder and lead editor of Strategy Battles. He served for 12 years as an officer in the British Army Intelligence Corps, specialising in Middle East open-source intelligence and tactical analysis. During his service he was deployed across the region, developing deep expertise in threat assessment, force structure analysis, and OSINT verification methodologies applied at both operational and strategic level.
After leaving the military, Marcus joined Defence Intelligence at the Ministry of Defence, where he continued geopolitical analysis and open-source reporting at a national level. In 2026, he launched Strategy Battles — a platform built on the same standards of rigour and accuracy developed throughout his military and intelligence career, but accessible to a wider audience who deserve better than what mainstream media provides.
At Strategy Battles, Marcus oversees all editorial operations, leads tactical analysis, verifies weapons and systems reporting, and sets the editorial standards that every piece of content must meet before publication.
