One Israeli soldier was killed and three others wounded in ground clashes in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, the Israeli army confirmed in an official statement reported by Anadolu Agency. Of the three wounded, one soldier is in moderate condition and two sustained minor injuries.

The fatality brings the confirmed IDF death toll in Lebanon to 13 soldiers since the campaign began on March 2 — the day Hezbollah entered the conflict following U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The Israeli army has been conducting an expanded ground offensive across southern Lebanon, pushing into towns including Bint Jbeil, which IDF forces nearly fully encircled on April 13 after killing more than 100 Hezbollah operatives in the area.

The clash occurred despite a ceasefire declared between the U.S. and Iran on April 8. Israel has maintained throughout that the truce does not apply to its military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon — a position contested by Iran, Pakistan and France.

Tuesday also marks a significant diplomatic milestone: Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors are meeting for the first time at the U.S. State Department in Washington — a direct engagement that has not occurred since the two countries have no formal diplomatic relations. The talks, confirmed by both sides, are aimed at establishing a ceasefire framework and launching formal negotiations. Israel has stated the talks will focus on Hezbollah disarmament. Lebanon has insisted there can be “no negotiations under fire.”

The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed on April 14 that Israeli strikes have now killed at least 2,089 people and wounded 6,762 across the country since March 2. Iran also separately announced on Tuesday that it is demanding compensation from five Arab states over their alleged participation in U.S.-Israeli strikes — a development that signals Tehran is now pursuing multiple simultaneous diplomatic and legal pressure tracks as the April 22 ceasefire deadline approaches.
